About

Hello, world. Welcome to JennaRectorWrites.com, a site dedicated to an honest, but hopeful look at life and the experiences so many of us share. My desire is to offer connection, compassion, and understanding through stories we live, about life itself, marriage and relationships, parenting, self-care, wellness, and more.

It often feels likes today’s world can place impossible expectations on people of who they should be, what they should do, and how they should manage it all with a smile. The intent of this site is to offer a perspective, laden with hope and a little humor, to help connect people and share in the beautiful, often difficult, and chaotic lives we live.

So, with that being said, who am I?

While it can be tough to describe yourself, (and most of us can never be truly objective) here is what I know to be true about myself.

I am a wife and a mother. I am a grandmother, a daughter, sister, and friend among many other roles.

I have my degrees in psychology and counseling, and while I have worked as a counselor, I also think counseling is part of my soul.

I am a storyteller, in my mind and sometimes for the masses; and now, with my first published children’s book, I will also call myself an author. (I recently wrote a children’s book inspired by my own granddaughter, with a hopeful message for kids about overcoming fears and seeing your strengths.)

I love reading and believe in the power of books to change lives and I absolutely love getting lost in the story.

I have a love for travel, and believe whole-heartedly, that it expands your world, long after you return.

I believe (much like Whitney Houston sang) that “the children are our future”. This belief drives me to try to inspire children to see themselves for all can be and encourage them to change the world, for the better. (Hence the children’s book).

I am in a constant battle of wanting to improve myself, all while still trying to love myself and appreciate all that I am.

I cry easily at beautiful songs, romantic moments in movies, and true stories that pull at your heartstrings. I also talk to my dog, like she is human (and as annoying as my husband believes it to be, I think she understands me completely).

I am a dreamer and a firm believer that anything is possible and hopeful I can live the words my favorite quote by Gandhi, which reminds us, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”.

So, that’s a little about me. The goal for the site is to highlight stories so many of us live and breathe (and often need); about marriage, motherhood, friendship, ways to focus on self-care, and learning to seek gratitude, as a means to navigate life and it’s ups and downs. My sincere wish, though, is for this site to serve as a reminder, to anyone who needs it, that we are more connected than we know, and hope, laughter, and help are never farther than this place.
